The biggest news today in the sports world is that Michael Sam will be a Dallas Cowboy barring a failed physical. There will be people out there that think this signing is only an attention grab made by the most prolific owner in the NFL in Jerry Jones. This signing will benefit both Michael Sam and the Dallas Cowboys and here is why.
Even though Michael Sam will be a practice player, he will bring more media and cameras with him. The Cowboys aren't too shy with cameras considering they are America's team and more eyeballs on the Dallas Cowboys than any other team.
The Cowboys defense was just awful last season and they lost their best two defensive linemen in Demarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher, Their second round pick Demarcus Lawrence is on the PUP list, and they have lost their defensive quarterback Sean Lee for the season due to a torn ACL.
Michael Sam was the defensive player of the year for the SEC. Although Sam doesn't have the have the amazing physical attributes that makes teams go wow, he can improve the awful defense we saw last season.
The Cowboys have been a .500 team for 17 years but the Cowboys have sort of an infrastructure that can handle any criticism towards Sam. The Locker room is led by Tony Romo, Jason Witten, and Dez Bryant. These players have been leading the locker room by example.
What do you guys think of Michael Sam potentially signing with the Cowboys?
