Today's win or go home game between Italy and Uruguay ended in controversial fashion. Because Italy had the goal differential over Uruguay, they would advance if the match ended in a draw. It seemed like Italy's strategy was to have the match end in a draw. The first half of the match, there wasn't much offense and the only thing worth mentioning was Mario Balotelli got a yellow card (his second in the world cup) and will not play in Italy's next match should they beat Uruguay.
The start of the second half, Italy had sat out their best scorer in Mario Balotelli because they were concerned that Mario would be kicked out. Again just like the first half, this was not a high scoring half until the 81st minute when Diego Godin got a header to take the lead.
The controversy comes 1 minute before that game winning header when Uruguay's Luis Suarez took a bite into Italy's Giorgio Chiellini. Suarez has had incidents before biting his opponents and after the match the soccer analyst felt like most would that the bite overshadowed Uruguay's win.
We will see what FIFA will do to Luis Suarez because of the bite. If we believe the soccer analyst we may see Luis Suarez get kicked out of the World Cup.
What do you guys think about the controversy? would Italy advance if not for the bite?
