By now, sports fans are now aware that Michael Sam had been drafted in the 7th round by the St. Louis Rams. The big topic about Michael Sam getting drafted was when he kissed his boyfriend after he got drafted. Fast forward a couple days later we found out that the Oprah Winfrey Network has a deal in place for a Michael Sam documentary. The St. Louis Rams had no idea about the documentary deal and the NFL had denied that they had any knowledge of this. So the question is, is Michael Sam a distraction?
Well there are several angles to go at this topic. Even though Michael Sam is a 7th round pick, he will have more coverage on him than anyone on the Rams roster. Because of the expanded coverage on Sam, this could cause friction in the locker room. We saw this happen with Tebow, the moment he left the Broncos his teammates were already making comments and happy that he left. I doubt players will be publicly vocal as long as Sam is a member of the Rams because they will be publically criticizing a teammates and the media could twist their words and make it about his sexual orientation.
Michael Sam has said that he just wants to be known as a football player but we all know that isn't going to happen, but before he can be a hero or an inspiration, Sam must prove he is good enough to make the roster based on his skill.
What do you guys think, is Michael Sam already a distraction?
